An audit trail is NOT a receipt

No one is talking about giving voters a receipt. We want a Voter-verifield audit trail. For example, a paper ballot with little ovals you fill in besides the name of candidates and you feed it into an optical scan machine. The machine records your vote and shows you on a screen that it has recorded your ballot the way you marked it. The ballot would remain in the machine's collecter and would be the audit trail. SB 840 and HB 2707 require mandatory radom audits of sample precincts after each election. If the audit is different from the original machine tally of the scanned count of the ballot, the hand count stands. If there is a problem there will be a recount with the ballots either re-scanned or counted by hand.

The random audits are an essential feature of this legislation. SB 840 is coming up before the whole Senate in the very near future. Please contact your Senator and ask them to support SB 840.

This is not about partisan politics. I am not trying to hype either Jeannemarie Devolites Davis or Tim Hugo. It is just that this legislation merits our support.
