What George Barker and Chap Petersen owe Andy Hurst

In many ways the ground work for their victories was laid by Hurst and his army of canvassers. We knew who our Democratic supporters were because we spent 2006 identifying them.

Some of Hurst's supporters would like him to run again. I think Hurst would rather be Attorney General for President Edwards. Wouldn't that be great? Wouldn't it be grand if the guy who stood up to Ken Starr was our US AG? Wouldn't it be great to have an AG who was anti-torture? It could happen.

Hey Alice,

I couldn't agree with you more about the incredible groundwork that Andy Hurst laid in 2006, making our victories on Tuesday all the more possible.

In fact, I'm one of those Andy Hurst supporters who would love to see Andy back on the ticket and finish the job we started.

Any chance you would be willing to point me in the direction of those Hurst supporters who would like to see him run again?

The author of Watch This Space blog.

But I think Andy was exhausted by that race and would rather serve in the Edwards administration.

Alice, thanks for the pointer. I should make clear, however, that, although I think very highly of Andy, would gladly volunteer to help him, and would be thrilled to have him as my Congressperson, if he did run, I wouldn't enjoy watching him get outfunded and overwhelmed by the Byrne machine which has already started running and the Connolly machine which likely will begin running soon.

Joel, like the JMDD "machine," these two have a lot more bark than bite. . .

Anonymous, I like the dog analogy.

The Davis dogs had considerable bite; they just bought too much of their bark from the wrong right-wing masters until Chap appeared with a bite way in disproportion to his bark. Tom still has some bite, but, for his sake, I hope he turns tail and runs.

Similarly, and Alice could do a much better job of this than I, Connolly has some serious bite. His problem, according to some, is, as in the case of the Davis dogs, his loyalty to some questionable masters.

Ben, over at NLS, thinks Byrne has bite. I'm taking a wait and see attitude about that, but her bark was mighty appealing to me two years ago (sorry ol' Chap).
